Project Details

The Lane Field hotels are a planned $325-million waterfront development on a leasehold governed by the San Diego Port Commission, Tidelands Trust property owned by Californians. The development team partnership holding an option agreement to develop the site includes Hardage Suite Hotels LLC (33.33%), Lankford and Associates (33.33%), C.W. Clark Inc. (33.33%), and Phelps Development Co.(.01%).

CW Clark describes the project on its website:

"The Lane Field project will be a destination not only for tourists, but also for the residents of San Diego. The vibrant bay view project is split into north and south sections with two proposed towers. A $225-million south complex housing a 19-story, 525-room InterContinental hotel will be across from the San Diego cruise ship terminal. The adjacent $100-million north complex will have a 14-story, 275-room Aviana Suites hotel. Retail shops and restaurants will be located both inside and outside of the hotels, and more than 1,700 parking spaces will be provided."

The Port District of San Diego is expected to consider additional significant approvals for the project on December 11, 2007. View a description of the project on the Port's website.

The California Coastal Commission issued an approval for the development concept in 2001, with which the current project must be consistent. The California State Lands Commission governs acceptable uses on State Tidelands property.

The Lane Field project falls within the multi-agency North Embarcadero Visionary Plan (NEVP), a district bound by Market Street on the south, Laurel Street to the north, the railroad right of way to the east and the San Diego Bulkhead line (the bayward edge of land) to the west, in downtown San Diego.
